Screensaver Information

This free screensaver celebrates Saint Patrick's Day on the 17th of March. It displays an ever-growing plant stalk that randomly sprouts clovers or shamrocks. If left for a period of time the clovers will eventually fill the whole screen and if you are lucky, a few four-leaf clovers might grow! The jolly Irish jig music playing in the background is by the Trinity River Whalers.

The screensaver was created using Flash Actionscript 2

History of St Patrick

St Patrick was born in Britain during the roman occupation in either the north of England or southern Scotland - the exact location is not known. At an early age hew was kidnapped and brought to Ireland - then a pagan country - as a slave.

He escaped from Ireland, was recaptured and then escaped again and traveled Europe for many years trying to find his purpose in life. He eventually came to the conclusion that he must become a true servant of god and spread his message.

St Patrick initially studied at the Lerin Monastery, situated on an island just off the Cote d'Azur. After completing his studies he returned to Britain, unsure where life would take him next. One night a voice spoke to him in a dream. It said "We beseech thee, holy youth, to come and walk once more amongst us." It was an Irish voice. Now, finally, St Patrick knew what his purpose was - to convert the Irish to Christianity.
